This baby was born free of the effects of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.
Not all babies are so lucky. Alcohol does more damage to the developing baby than any other substance. Alcohol use during pregnancy can cause brain damage, birth defects, premature birth, and death. More babies are born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders than with Autism. Most children with FASD have normal intelligence and normal appearance. Without appropriate intervention services, most of these children will have serious problems in life.
Half of all women who might become pregnant are drinking alcohol.
